Driver in horror crash which killed 10 remanded

The driver of a trailer lorry involved in a four-vehicle crash which killed 10 people last night has been remanded for four days to assist in investigations.

According to a report in Utusan Malaysia, the 45-year-old will be remanded from today until Tuesday.

Based on preliminary information, the driver has tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

The crash at the USJ rest stop along the Elite Highway resulted in the death of 10 people, including a mother and her eight children. The cars had stopped for a break at the rest area.

The dead were Norul Naziah Buyong, 37, her 10-month-old son Muhammad Raid Fathi Abd Razak, Puteri Nur Ain Syalwana, 3, Muhammad Hidayat Hakimie, 7, Muhamad Rolkaizat Rezky, 9, Muhamad Aizat Syazwan, 10, Puteri Hidayah, 12, Razatul Aliah, 16 and Muhamad Razarul Amin, 17.

A 27-year-old mechanic, Rahimi Rolex also lost his life in the accident. All of them were killed at the accident site.

The children’s father, Abd Razak Majit, 50, escaped with light injuries.

Police said the family was returning to their house in Padang Jawa, Klang, from Melaka after a holiday.
