Halimah visits Thaipusam sites, route to fine-tune festival SOPs

National unity minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique says similar inspections would be carried out in other states.

KUALA LUMPUR:
National unity minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique visited sites involved in the Thaipusam celebration here and in Batu Caves, Selangor, today to streamline the proposed SOPs for the religious festival.

The inspection was made following the decision by the 10th Covid-19 Quartet Ministers Meeting on Tuesday, which decided that the national unity ministry, the National Security Council (MKN), the health ministry, and police go to the sites and route that will be taken by the chariot procession to fine-tune the proposed SOPs.

According to a national unity ministry statement today, the inspection was to look at the proceedings and movements of the chariot procession from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Jalan Tun HS Lee here and ending at the main temple in Batu Caves.

Similar inspections would be carried out at temples in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah and Perak soon.

The findings at the locations and discussions of the ministries and police would be brought up for the consideration of the defence minister and the health minister to further improve the SOPs for the celebration of the religious festival which falls on Jan 18, 2022.
