PETALING JAYA:
Carolling from house to house will not be allowed this Christmas and house visits are only allowed for those who are fully vaccinated, said national unity minister Halimah Sadique.

In a statement to announce SOPs for the occasion, she said that worship will be allowed, according to current SOPs for non-Muslim houses of worship.

While choir performances in church are allowed, choir members have to observe physical distancing measures and are required to wear a face mask or face shield.

She added that the opening of Christmas bazaars will depend on approval from local authorities.

Halimah said the SOPs, which are for Dec 24 and 25, were discussed and approved by the 10th Covid-19 quartet ministers meeting on Tuesday.

She also called on Christians to always adhere to SOPs – such as wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing – while celebrating Christmas.

Earlier today, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said small, private gatherings to celebrate Christmas or New Year would be allowed only if those attending have carried out self-tests beforehand.

Halimah, who visited sites involved in the Thaipusam celebration in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor today, is expected to announce the SOPs for the Jan 18 religious festival soon.
