
Both measures were introduced as part of the Muhyiddin Yassin-led government’s stimulus efforts, aimed at easing the burden of those whose finances took a hit during the movement restrictions.
In a Facebook post today, Zahid said while both measures were set to end, the people’s suffering had not.
“Not all citizens are ready to pay back their commitments,” the former deputy prime minister said. “There are still those who don’t have stable jobs and whose businesses have not made profits.”
He compared the long-term effects of the Covid-19 virus on the health of patients to the lasting economic impact the country and people continue to grapple with.
“Many hope that the finance minister will fulfil the people’s wishes and continue the i-Citra scheme (of EPF withdrawals).
“Contributors who have sufficient savings should be allowed to withdraw their money again. At least, they can survive a little longer in the hope that things will improve later,” he said.
