Fancy, unregistered number plates – 24,900 road users booked

Motorcyclists accounted for 49.4% of the total summons issued, cars at 42.4%.

Motorcyclists comprised almost half the offenders found in a police operation on number plates.
PETALING JAYA:
A total of 24,909 motor vehicles were booked for violating laws relating to registration numbers and plates that were fancy and unregistered in a month-long police operation in November.

Police found that 7,874 vehicles had modified number plates, 2,112 without any registration numbers and 17,035 others had numbers that did not match with the vehicles.

The largest number of offences were on motorcycles, which accounted for 49.4% of the summons issued followed by cars at 42.4%.

A total of 14 people were arrested and 20 others under the Dangerous Drugs Act, and 111 vehicles seized.

Police urged vehicle owners to abide by the laws and ensure that registration numbers and plates are displayed in accordance with the permitted specifications.
