PETALING JAYA:
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has taken the Election Commission to task over the SOPs for the Sarawak state elections, questioning its rationale for some of the rules imposed.

“After reading the latest SOPs issued by the EC, I was very disappointed,” he wrote on Facebook.

“We need to have a critical discussion about the elements of these SOPs. I don’t see any concrete reasoning for the SOPs, let alone any evidence based on medical facts or health-related data.”

The PKR president said that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic was “not an excuse to make the electoral process lame”.

Anwar also asked the EC to come clean with the results of a study it said it would conduct on the SOPs that it had imposed for the Melaka state elections last month.

On the EC’s guarantee that all candidates and parties would get equal media coverage, he said there was still no update on the latest developments on the issue.
