The Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker said Hannah Yeoh not only served her constituency, but had also respected mosque etiquette.
“After 64 years of Merdeka, are we not ashamed to still resort to hateful politics using race and religion? Enough lah,” the Pengerang MP tweeted today.
In response, Yeoh thanked Azalina for “being the voice of moderation”.
It was reported that Yeoh was criticised by Johor DAP leader Dr Boo Cheng Hau for wearing a headscarf during her visit to a mosque in Kuala Lumpur last week.
Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had defended Yeoh and slammed Boo for remarks which he said were no different from those made before by “extremist and primitive PAS leaders”.
Lim also said Boo’s actions ran the risk of portraying DAP leaders as being intolerant and regressive and had shed a bad light on DAP.
Earlier today, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman stood up for Yeoh, calling her a “great patriotic Malaysian”.
