IPOH:
The site of the landslide that occurred last Thursday at Km27 Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands is still unstable and shows signs of further possible landslips.

Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad said the route was still closed to enable the slope engineering division from the Public Works Department (JKR) to conduct further studies and plan remedial action.

“The JKR is expected to monitor the situation at the disaster area, including using sensors to detect soil movement.

“Hopefully, they will stay vigilant because yesterday there were signs of another landslide, which is why we closed the road,” he told a press conference at the Perak youth assembly at the Casuarina Meru Convention Centre.

The landslide last Thursday resulted in the deaths of lorry driver Muhammad Hafiz Hamdi, 31, and the driver of an MPV, Tan Chee Heng, 36. They were found buried in their vehicles by the search-and-rescue team.

Saarani advised motorists to Cameron Highlands to use the Tapah-Ringlet road, which was reopened to traffic at 5pm last Thursday.

“The road was closed due to recent landslides but has been opened. Motorists are advised to stay vigilant, especially if it is raining,” he said.

On Nov 23, the FT059 Tapah-Ringlet (Cameron Highlands) Federal Road was closed to all vehicles following a landslide at Batu 25 and Batu 26.
