PETALING JAYA:
A total of 139 people, including 114 students, at Sekolah Seri Puteri Cyberjaya have tested positive for Covid-19, said Selangor health director Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman.

He said the rest who were confirmed to have contracted the virus from the Persiaran Tasik cluster, announced on Nov 29, were 15 teachers and 10 other school staff.

This followed a screening of 946 people, comprising 849 students, 59 teachers and 38 staff members, at the school as at 3pm today.

“All the positive cases will be referred to the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) low-risk quarantine and treatment centre while close contacts will be placed at government quarantine stations,” he said in a statement.

“The 139 are in stable condition, either under Category 1 (no symptoms) or Category 2A (symptomatic but considered as low-risk).”

It was reported yesterday that 65 students had tested positive for Covid-19 at the school.

The Selangor health department, however, did not address a claim by a parent that a teacher who was reported to have triggered the cluster had continued to hold lessons despite showing symptoms earlier.

Sha’ari only said that the index case was a teacher who developed symptoms on Nov 22 before being confirmed to have the virus two days later.

The parent, who declined to be named, had told FMT that her child was among the Form 1 students who was infected at the school.

She claimed the teacher, said to be the source of the outbreak, had given a stern warning to students not to take off their face masks while she held lessons in class.
