
Lim posted a screenshot of the federal gazette on Twitter today, describing it as a “victory for democracy and youths”.
The gazette stated that the King appointed Dec 15 as the date on which the Undi18 amendments would come into effect.
Sarawak goes to the polls on Dec 18.
The constitutional amendment was gazetted on Nov 25.
Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar had guaranteed that Undi18 and automatic voter registration would be implemented before Dec 31, as Putrajaya could be subject to contempt of court by failing to do so.
The Kuching High Court had on Sept 3 ordered for the lowering of the voting age from 21 to 18 and automatic voter registration to be implemented by Dec 31.
The proposed amendments had been approved at the second meeting of the second session of the 14th Parliament in July 2019.
