In a statement today, the company said its Turkey operations had begun to show signs of normalisation as passenger traffic increased from 4.9 million to 8.9 million.
ISG recorded 2.8 million passenger movements in October 2021, despite the end of the peak summer season, which was also higher than the preceding month’s performance of 2.7 million passengers.
“Flights from ISG have resumed to all 37 domestic destinations while staying connected with 93 international destinations. This has enabled ISG to reach the highest volume since April 2020,” it said.
Passenger traffic in Malaysian operations contracted by 77.8% to one million passengers as compared to 4.5 million passengers in the corresponding quarter last year, impacted by the continuation of the movement control order and renewed total lockdown from June 1, 2021.
“The group continues to see strong momentum in traffic recovery with the gradual relaxation of travel restrictions. In October 2021 alone, MAHB recorded 1.3 million passenger movements in Malaysia, significantly higher than the overall one million passengers recorded in the three months ending Sept 30, 2021.”
“Domestic traffic in Malaysia witnessed sturdy growth following the lifting of the interstate travel restrictions as average daily passenger movements increased two-fold to 48,000 for the second half of October,” MAHB said.
Meanwhile, MAHB said November 2021 marked the beginning of the vaccinated travel lane (VTL) for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route and the Langkawi travel bubble for international tourists, boosting air travel and the tourism sector.
“Malaysia is also working on the upcoming travel corridor with Indonesia which will further contribute to the increase in international passenger movements.
“The developments that are taking place locally and globally to resuscitate the tourism and aviation sectors provide optimism for better prospects in traffic recovery in the months to come,” MAHB said.
