Sabah local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said the Sungai Batang cluster was triggered by a student at the Sandakan polytechnic school.
He said close contact screenings later found that 23 more students, including 11 today, had been infected with the virus.
Further tests are being carried out.
Masidi also said the state had recorded 467 new infections in the last 24 hours, 66 more than yesterday.
He said 97.4% of these cases involved Category 1 and 2 patients, with four in Category 3, one in Category 4 and two in Category 5.
Sabah’s infectivity rate is 0.96, which is slightly higher than the national level of 0.95.
