Nabbed – man who dragged schoolgirl, 13, into car

The man drove off with her but she managed to escape 400m away.

JOHOR BAHRU:
Police have arrested a local man believed to have attempted to kidnap a 13-year-old girl in front of her school in Taman Molek, Johor Jaya here last Thursday.

Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the 35-year-old was nabbed near Senawang in Negeri Sembilan at 8.35pm last night by two teams from the Johor CID.

He said the girl had just got down from her school van at 6.50pm on Nov 25 when a man driving a Perodua Kancil approached her and asked her to deliver a form to the school.

The man then asked the girl to get in the car. She refused and was dragged into the vehicle.

The suspect sped off with the girl, who managed to escape some 400m from the scene of the incident. She later sought help from the public.

Ayob Khan said the suspect has a criminal and a drug related record. He also tested positive for methamphetamine. A mobile phone, a black shirt and a pair of jeans were also seized.

He will be remanded for four days from today for further investigation.
