Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has appointed another adviser in Kedah Umno chief Jamil Khir Baharom, who was the religious affairs minister in the Barisan Nasional government from 2009 to 2018.

Jamil confirmed this to FMT but did not want to disclose the date he was appointed. He said he will be advising the prime minister on matters pertaining to religious affairs.

He was made a senator in the Dewan Negara from 2009 to 2013 and became the MP for Jerai in the 2013 general election but failed to defend his seat in 2018.

In October, former Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Azalina Othman Said was appointed Ismail’s special adviser for law and human rights, while Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan was made the economic director in the prime minister’s office the same month.
