The Lahad Datu MP and Segama assemblyman, who officially joined Bersatu today, said he made the decision to be part of the ruling government as he felt indebted to the voters who expected development.
“There are three years or more for me to serve. If I remain in the opposition, what can I expect?” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.
“Will I be able to bring any development? In the next elections, I am going back to the people to ask for their support. What will they say?
“Doesn’t that tell us there is no point in going back to lobby for votes when you are unable to bring anything as an opposition member? I don’t think that would be proper.”
On Oct 30, Mohamaddin, who was the tourism, arts and culture minister under the former Pakatan Harapan government, announced that he was quitting Warisan as he wanted to focus on developing both Lahad Datu and Segama.
Earlier today, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said Mohamaddin’s membership application had been approved and accepted at a special Bersatu Supreme Council meeting last night, chaired by its president, Muhyiddin Yassin.
Mohamaddin said he felt Bersatu was the right platform to bring about changes in his constituencies, which lagged far behind other places.
“It doesn’t have to be much because time is short now (until the next election). But at least we can try our best to bring more development to the areas,” he said.
