PETALING JAYA:
Melaka Umno chief Ab Rauf Yusoh is among eight new faces in the state executive council (exco), with the Tanjung Bidara assemblyman given the industry, investment and entrepreneurial development portfolio.

Only three of the former exco members remain, including chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali (Lendu), who will be in charge of economic planning, finance, land development, government-linked companies (GLCs), and religious affairs.

Muhammad Jailani Khamis (Rembia) retains the tourism, heritage and culture portfolio, while Rahmad Mariman (Ayer Molek) is now the chairman of the public works, transport and public facilities, and infrastructure and flood management committees.

Among the other new members are Zaidi Atan (Serkam), who is in charge of housing, local government and environment, Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman (Telok Mas), who holds the rural development, agriculture and agro-based industry portfolio, and VP Shanmugam (Gadek), who has been given the youth development, sports and NGO portfolio.

Kalsom Nordin (Pengkalan Batu) takes on the women’s affairs, family development and welfare portfolios, while Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh (Merlimau) has been named exco member for health and anti-drugs.

Rais Yasin (Paya Rumput) is the new exco member for education and technology, while Ngwe Hee Sem (Machap Jaya) has been given the public relations, labour, consumer affairs and unity portfolio.

Bernama quoted Sulaiman as saying the lineup symbolised unity and racial cooperation, given its makeup of Umno, MCA and MIC members.

“This combination of the old and experienced, and new faces from various backgrounds and professions is the best lineup to help the people develop and prosper over the next five years,” he told a press conference when announcing the exco members at Seri Negeri today.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place this afternoon.
