Why weren’t Zeti, Nor Mohamed witnesses in SRC trial, asks Puad

The Umno leader says the former central bank governor and the ex-minister assisted in an MACC probe but were not called as prosecution witnesses.

Zeti Akhtar Aziz and Nor Mohamed Yakcop had their statements recorded when MACC investigated the SRC International case, says Umno’s Puad Zarkashi.
PETALING JAYA:
A senior Umno leader has questioned why former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz and former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nor Mohamed Yakcop were not called to be witnesses in Najib Razak’s SRC International trial.

Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said this was despite the fact that Zeti and Nor Mohamed had their statements recorded by MACC.

In a Facebook post, he also raised questions of double standards over the freezing of accounts that received 1MDB-linked funds.

He asked if Zeti’s family members have had their accounts frozen.

Puad also sought answers on whether the authorities had investigated Nor Mohamed as he approved the setting up of SRC International as well as the first RM2 billion loan it received from Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP).

On Friday, MACC said it had managed to recover assets and funds linked to 1MDB amounting to RM20.5 billion to date.

The sum included the return of assets amounting to US$15.4 million (RM64.4 million) involving the accounts of Cutting Edge Industries Ltd, a company owned by Tawfiq Ayman and Samuel Goh.

Tawfiq is married to Zeti, who is a witness in Najib’s corruption trial on charges related to 1MDB.

“The government only knew in 2019 about the case involving Zeti’s husband. In the interest of fairness, why wasn’t this vital information given to Najib’s lawyers during the SRC trial?” Puad asked.
