This comes after the Federal Court dismissed Alvin Goh Leong Yeong’s application to review an earlier decision this year over his habeas corpus bid to secure his freedom.
His lawyer Jacky Loi said the court dismissed Goh’s review in an online proceeding today.
“However, the court has not given any reason for the dismissal as yet,” he said.
Besides Loi, Goh was represented by lead counsels Gopal Sri Ram and Gobind Singh Deo while senior federal counsels Muhammad Sinti and Farah Ezlin Yusop Khan appeared for the home ministry.
In November last year, the Prevention of Crime Board, under the home ministry, slapped Goh as well as another businessman Zaidi Kanapiah and two police officers with a two-year detention order under Poca over allegations they were part of an online gambling syndicate.
Zaidi, who is commonly known as Addy Kana, and the two police officers won their appeal to challenge their detention in the Federal Court earlier this year. The court ruled that the detention was done in bad faith.
Meanwhile, Goh and his brother, Goh Yeong Hui, have since been charged with seven counts of money laundering amounting to RM2.14 million.
They were accused of receiving the proceeds from unlawful activities by two Chinese nationals, Wang Hangang and Feng Chuang, between Sept 9 and Nov 11, 2019.
