Dr Bhupinder Singh of Hospital Penang was also part of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Teoh Beng Hock's death.

The special committee to look into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim in 2018 was formed on Oct 29 and will present its findings in six months.
PETALING JAYA:
A senior consultant pathologist from Penang is now part of the special committee to look into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim in 2018.

Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who heads the committee, confirmed the appointment of Hospital Penang’s Dr Bhupinder Singh today.

Bhupinder was previously a member of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to look into Teoh Beng Hock’s death.

Besides Bhupinder, former Court of Appeal judge Kamardin Hashim, Universiti Malaya’s (UM) senior consultant histopathologist Dr Looi Lai Meng, criminologist P Sundramoorthy, as well as two Bukit Aman senior officers – Azari Abd Rahman and Mohammad Abd Hamid – were also named as committee members.

Other members previously announced were home minister Hamzah Zainudin, housing and local government minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican, attorney-general Idrus Harun, and inspector-general of police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi said the terms of reference for this special committee will be submitted to the Cabinet as soon as possible.

“We will present our findings and recommendations to the Cabinet within six months from the date this special committee was formed (Oct 29),” he added.

Adib, a member of the emergency medical rescue services unit from the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station, sustained serious injuries during a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, on Nov 27, 2018.

He died on Dec 17, 21 days after he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in a critical condition. He was 24.

On Sept 19, 2019, coroner Rofiah Mohamad ruled that “more than two unidentified persons” had killed the fireman, who succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was sent to the scene.

She said it was now up to the police and the attorney-general to bring charges.

On July 13 last year, former inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador said that no reliable eyewitness had been found to the attack that resulted in the fireman’s death.
