Syed Saddiq’s tweet returns to haunt him

The Muar MP has been critical of Pakatan Harapan’s willingness to allow ex-Umno men to contest under its banner in the Melaka polls but a 2018 tweet contradicts his recent stance.

In the 2018 tweet, Syed Saddiq welcomed Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin to Bersatu after she left Umno.
PETALING JAYA:
An old tweet from Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has resurfaced, and it appears to contradict recent statements he’s made opposing party hoppers in the Melaka state election.

In the 2018 tweet, Syed Saddiq welcomed Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin to Bersatu after she left Umno. He was then with Bersatu.

The Muda president said on Saturday that the party had rejected working with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state polls because of its willingness to field former Umno men Idris Haron and Nor Azman Hassan.

The duo were sacked by their party after they withdrew support for the then chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali, causing the fall of the state government.

Muda is not contesting any seat in the Melaka election, set for Nov 20.

Today, Facebook page Tentera Troll Kebangsaan Malaysia pulled up an old tweet from Syed Saddiq in which he welcomed Mas Ermieyati to the “family”.

“Although we had many differences before, I have always maintained that YB is one of the best YBs from Barisan Nasional. Looking forward to working with you.”

The December 2018 post was accompanied by a picture of Mas Ermieyati with then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who welcomed her to Bersatu during its time with PH.

Syed Saddiq has been contacted for comment.
