Appeals court greenlights new dates for Najib’s Singapore trip

Najib Razak initially wanted to go to Singapore to meet his then pregnant daughter from Nov 3 to Nov 20 but has had to change his travel plans due to the Melaka election, court told.

Najib Razak’s travel plans had to be changed because he had been tasked with handling the Melaka election for Umno.
PUTRAJAYA:
The Court of Appeal today allowed Najib Razak’s amended application for the temporary release of his passport so he can travel to Singapore to visit his daughter and newborn grandson.

Judge Kamaludin Md Said granted Najib’s amended application to meet Nooryana Najwa from Nov 21 to Dec 5.

Najib’s earlier plan had been to leave on Nov 3 and return on Nov 20.

Lawyer Muhammad Farhan Shafee told the court that Najib’s travel plans had to be changed because he had been tasked with handling the Melaka election for Umno.

Nominations have been set for Nov 8 and polling for Nov 20 for the Melaka state election.

Farhan also informed the court that three high courts had last week granted orders for the temporary release of Najib’s passport to enable him to travel to Singapore from Nov 21 to Dec 5.

Deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Hasim told the court that the prosecution had no objection to Najib’s amended application.

Kamaludin then asked if the prosecution had read the reasons given by Najib in his affidavit, to which Shafiq answered in the affirmative.

“We believe that since the prosecution has no objection against the release of the passport, they must have gone through his (Najib) application,” Kamaludin, who sat together with Nordin Hassan and Hashim Hamzah. said.

Kamaludin then reminded Najib to return his passport to the court before Dec 6.

Najib came to the Court of Appeal to have his travel document returned as it was this court that had heard his appeal against his conviction and sentence in the SRC International case six months ago.

The Court of Appeal has yet to deliver its judgment.

Najib has been sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million by the High Court over abuse of power and misappropriating RM42 million SRC International funds.

The lower court has also allowed the application of Najib’s wife Rosmah Mansor for the temporary release of her passport to travel to Singapore.

She said she wanted to be beside Nooryana to provide mental and emotional support.
