“This has brought good news to industry players because the people can now carry out tourism activities all over the country and in turn stimulate industrial recovery,” the ministry said in a written parliamentary reply.

This comes after Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the lifting of the inter-state travel ban on Oct 10 after 90% of the adult population had been being fully vaccinated.

The ministry also reported that the reopening of museums had seen 47,000 visitors from Aug 7 to Oct 24.

The museums involved included the National Museum, Sungai Lembing Museum, National Textile Museum and the Malaysian Architecture Museum.

The ministry said that the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) reported that the average occupancy rate (AOR) for 4-star and 5-star hotels increased by 30% in October.

They also said that domestic passenger movements at airports increased by 74% in September following the success of the Langkawi travel bubble.
