High tides, bad weather to hit 4 states next week

The irrigation and drainage department says the high tide phenomenon is expected to hit Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Johor for four days from Nov 4.

The public, especially residents living in coastal areas, have been advised to be alert for flooding caused by the high tide phenomenon.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Residents in coastal areas of four states have been warned of high tides for four days from Nov 4 which could be made worse by strong winds and heavy rain occurring simultaneously.

Irrigation and drainage department director-general Nor Hisham Mohd Ghazali said the phenomenon is expected to hit Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Johor.

He said there were risks of flash floods, seawater overflow and coastal flooding.

According to Nor Hisham, the areas expected to experience it are Kuala Muda (Kedah); Bagan Datuk (Perak); Klang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor (Selangor); and Batu Pahat and Pontian (Johor).

“The public, especially residents living in coastal areas, are advised to be alert and monitor the weather,” he said in a statement.

Apart from that, fishermen and visitors to the beach are advised to be careful when carrying out any activity on these dates, he added.
