The accused, Mat Khairi Mohammad, 34, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him in front of Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.

According to the charge, Mat Khairi was charged with intentionally causing serious injuries to his father, Mohammad Zakaria, 62, on Oct 17 at around 10am.

The accused hit his father with a stick when the senior citizen asked him for RM10 to buy breakfast.

The victim suffered a broken right wrist and received nine stitches on the head after the incident.

Mat Khairi was charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code as well as Section 326A of the same code which carries a fine and imprisonment of up to 14 years.

According to a Kosmo report, deputy public prosecutor Abu Arsalnaa Zainal Abidin prosecuted while the accused was not represented.

Bail was not offered because the victim was a family member.
