KUALA LUMPUR:
A total of 47 reports on deviant teachings in Malaysia have been received since early last year, religious affairs minister Idris Ahmad told the Dewan Rakyat

Fourteen of the reports were received during the first nine months of this year.

Idris said federal religious authorities were working closely with state religious departments to identify those behind the deviant teachings and curb their spread.

He said closed-door meetings were conducted with suspected deviant groups to provide counselling and guidance to correct their ways.

He was replying to Nizar Zakaria (BN-Parit) who asked about the number of reports received on deviant teachings and the efforts taken to curb such teachings.

Nizar, in an additional question, asked on the measures taken as some of the groups used Arabic words to hide behind these deviant teachings.

Idris said a committee was looking at this matter to ensure such teachings did not spread.

He also said state departments would take action against anyone found to be involved with deviant teachings.
