PETALING JAYA:
The upcoming Bill to amend the Federal Constitution and return Sabah and Sarawak to equal status in Malaysia will “reshape the landscape of the federation”, according to Salleh Said Keruak.

In a Facebook post today, Salleh said Sabahans and Sarawakians would be patiently waiting for the progressive changes from the amendment which would empower the two Borneon states.

“Our hope is that our leaders reach a consensus and set aside political sentiments on this matter. This is because these changes are crucial to determine our direction in Malaysia as equal partners,” said the former Sabah chief minister.

The Bill to create equal status for both Sabah and Sarawak in the Federation of Malaysia will be tabled at the next Parliament sitting on Oct 25.

According to Sabah and Sarawak affairs minister Maximus Ongkili, this Bill is different from the one tabled by the Pakatan Harapan administration in 2018.
