Deputy transport minister Henry Sum Agong said the new initiative would ensure enforcement is more transparent and easily implemented to prevent abuse of vehicle parking facilities for PwD by other road users.
Winding up the debate on the 12th Malaysian Plan (12MP), he added that to ensure that PwD-friendly public transportation was also provided in the interior and rural areas, the ministry, through the transportation committee under the National Council for PwD, would hold accessibility audits periodically each year to improve the existing facilities and services.
On another matter, Henry said his ministry, together with the works ministry, was in the process of developing and enforcing a new vehicle overloading enforcement system called “weigh-in-motion”.
He said using this system, enforcement against overloading could be implemented automatically without the vehicles having to stop.
Enforcement activities can also be done 24 hours a day and therefore reduce the need for a lot of enforcement personnel, he added.
Henry was confident the system could help reduce road damage caused by overloaded vehicles.
