PETALING JAYA:
Schools and higher institutions of learning in Kedah and Kelantan will reopen on Oct 31, and those in Penang, Perak and Sabah on Nov 1.

In a statement, the education ministry said preschoolers and national schools and vocational schools for special needs will also be reopened under Phase 3 of the national recovery plan (NRP).

Others to reopen are semester 2 of Form 6 classes, sports schools, public examination classes in full boarding schools including day and private schools, international baccalaureate diploma classes, as well as international examination classes.

The ministry has decided that if a state moves to the next phase, the reopening of educational institutions will be carried out two weeks after the date of transition to the new phase.

As such, when Kedah, Kelantan, Penang, Perak and Sabah moved into the third phase on Oct 18, education institutions will reopen two weeks later, either on Oct 31 or Nov 1.

Melaka, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will move into Phase 4 tomorrow, with schools reopening on Nov 1. This includes primary 1, 2 and 3 and Form 3 and 4 classes.

“Primary 4,5 and 6, transition classes, Form 1 and 2 classes will begin on Nov 8, a week after these states move into the fourth phase,” the ministry added. The reopening also includes private higher institutions of learning and private schools.
