PETALING JAYA:
Former Selangor deputy speaker Dr Daroyah Alwi has been appointed chairman of the Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC), making her the first woman to be named to the post.

Daroyah replaces Raja Idris Raja Kamarudin effective Oct 1, Bernama reported.

MRC chief executive officer Nurul Islam Mohamed Yusoff said Daroyah’s appointment marked a significant milestone as this would be the first time the council would be led by a woman since its establishment 20 years ago.

Nurul Islam said MRC’s management team was confident that with her vast experience, Daroyah would be able to further improve the performance of the council.

“MRC is also immensely appreciative and grateful towards former chairman Raja Idris Raja Kamarudin, for his valuable contribution and insights throughout his tenure at MRC,” the news agency quoted Nurul Islam as saying.

In June last year, Daroyah quit as the deputy speaker and as deputy Wanita PKR chief.
