
He said she would be charged under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“The investigation has been completed and the investigation paper was referred to the attorney-general’s chambers today,” he said in a statement.
Farouk noted that the punishment for violating Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglecting a child would be imprisonment of up to 20 years or a fine if convicted.
He added that Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act which is for overstaying with an expired social pass, could lead to a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or imprisonment not exceeding five years or both and a sentence of not more than six lashes if convicted
Farouk said the woman was detained by the police at the compound of the Sexual Investigation office at Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at about 1:50pm on Oct 3.
“The arrest was made following a police report received from the victim’s father, a 36-year-old local man, after he found bruises on the left shoulder and both eyes of his six-year-old son.
“One of the teachers there informed the victim’s father that his son had hit his head on the table because he did not want to eat, making the man suspicious and wanting to check the closed circuit television (CCTV) footage,” he said.
