No jab, no interstate travel for tourism, says minister

However, Nancy Shukri says those below 18 and not vaccinated are allowed to travel with parents or guardians who are fully inoculated.

Nancy Shukri said safety will be the focus of her ministry as outlined in the Tourism Recovery Plan.
PUTRAJAYA:
Only those fully vaccinated can travel interstate for tourism activities, said tourism, arts and culture minister Nancy Shukri.

“However, children under the age of 18 who have not been inoculated can travel with their parents or guardians who have been fully vaccinated,” she said in a statement on the lifting of the interstate travel ban.

Nancy said the announcement on allowing interstate travel was good news which had long been awaited by the industry to revive the local tourism, arts and culture sector.

She said this would ensure the survival of workers in the sector which had long been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I hope the interstate opening will help the industry and further rebuild the country’s economy,” she said.

To revive the tourism sector, Nancy said safety would be among the key factors as outlined in the Tourism Recovery Plan by the ministry, as only this will restore tourists’ confidence.

Nancy said visitors are encouraged to undergo the Covid-19 detection test before embarking on their trips.

“This can indirectly help the government to break the chain and curb the spread of the pandemic in the community.

“Do comply with all the SOPs set by the authorities from time to time,” she said.
