In the report on the autopsy carried out at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, it was stated that Azlan Nordin’s cause of death was “consistent with asphyxia-related death”.
The report added that Azlan suffered a neck fracture, multiple injuries on the face and head and “struggling” injuries on both his hands and legs.
The findings of the post-mortem come in the wake of a police report lodged by a niece of 45-year-old Azlan, alleging he was a victim of police brutality.
In her report, made after Azlan died at about 6pm on Oct 5, she claimed police had used force while arresting her uncle at his flat in Taman Dato Senu.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim was previously reported as saying that the raiding party used minimal force to restrain and disarm the sickle-wielding man.
According to Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai, the criminal investigation department from the city police headquarters is probing into the allegation.
He declined to comment on the findings of the post-mortem, saying that Azmi will soon make a statement on the case.
Police are also investigating information that Azlan sustained injuries during a quarrel with his younger brother on the morning of Oct 5.
At about 5pm, an eight-man anti-narcotics team raided Azlan’s flat on suspicion he was peddling drugs.
Police said during the arrest, Azlan turned aggressive, snatched a sickle and attacked members of the raiding party.
As police searched the flat for drugs, Azlan apparently gasped for breath and collapsed, falling unconscious. Paramedics later pronounced him dead.
Police said they found over 50gm of methamphetamine and almost 2gm of heroin in Azlan’s room.
