KUCHING:
Nine anglers who were feared drowned after their boat sank in waters off Pulau Satang have been found. One remains missing.

A fire and rescue department spokesman said the men were rescued by fishermen near Pulau Satang Besar very early this morning.

“All the nine victims arrived at the Telaga Air jetty and have since returned home.

“The search and rescue operation is still ongoing for the missing angler,” the spokesman said.

The anglers’ boat reportedly sank about two nautical miles in the waters off Pulau Satang yesterday afternoon.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency regional director Zin Azman Md Yunus said the search and rescue operation was launched immediately after receiving a 999 call yesterday.

He said the sea and weather conditions were a bit turbulent with wind speeds of 20-30kph and wave heights of 1.5m to 2m.
