GEORGE TOWN:
The power supply at the Penang Bridge toll plaza has been fully restored.

The 8.23pm blackout led to a traffic snarl, with motorists having to wait to pay their toll.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad’s Syed Mohammed Idid Syed Ahmad Idid said the toll plaza was affected by a larger power cut affecting Gelugor and Perai — at both ends of the bridge.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We are happy that all lanes at the toll plaza are back to normal,” he said.

The bridge operator had to rely on battery-operated handheld toll card readers after the power cut. Power was only restored at about 4.30am today.
