MACC nabs CEO of company linked to uCustoms project

The anti-graft agency is probing the RM397 million project that was flagged in the Auditor-General’s Report.

The CEO was detained at the MACC’s headquarters yesterday.
PETALING JAYA:
The chief executive officer of a company linked to the RM397.43 million uCustoms project has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The project, which began in 2013, has yet to be completed and was flagged in the Auditor-General’s Report 2019 Series 2.

According to a Sinar Harian report, the CEO, a 56-year-old man, was detained on Friday at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed the arrest. The suspect has been remanded for six days.

The man’s lawyer, Daljit Singh, said his client’s company would release a statement on the matter soon.

Earlier this week, MACC said it would be investigating the uCustoms project to determine if there was any corruption and abuse of power.

The uCustoms project, which was supposed to replace the Customs Information System, failed to be completed after 86 months despite being given five extensions.
