
In an announcement to Bursa Malaysia, Media Prima said the change was effective today.
Rafiq, 36, joined Media Prima in 2016 as the chief executive of REV Media Group (RMG, formerly known as Media Prima Digital).
He successfully led a business turnaround strategy that helped to achieve significant and consistent revenue growth, with RMG quickly turning a profit.
He was also instrumental in the expansion of the group’s digital presence with various strategic acquisitions and the expansion of its digital assets portfolio.
Rafiq, who holds a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) in Actuarial Science from Pennsylvania State University, also played a key role in Media Prima’s overall business transformation efforts in helping to unify the group’s digital strategy across all business subsidiaries.
Under Rafiq’s leadership, the group has become a leading digital platform in Malaysia among mobile users, with the third-highest overall digital audience reach in the country, behind Google and Facebook.
Media Prima also announced the appointment of Rosli Sabarudin as the group’s chief financial officer, bringing with him over 20 years of experience in accounting, finance and management in the utilities and media sectors.
Rosli, who was made acting CFO for the group on April 24 last year, had served in various roles for 14 years in Tenaga Nasional Berhad, before becoming the head of finance of TNB Remaco.
Media Prima chairman Syed Hussian Aljunid welcomed Rafiq and Rosli’s appointments, describing them as having been pivotal in driving the group’s positive performance in the past few months.
