Don’t slander me over RM65mil spent on Seri Perdana renovations, says Najib

The former prime minister says DAP had 'misunderstood' the 2011 budget.

Seri Perdana is being renovated at a cost of RM38.5 million.
PETALING JAYA:
Najib Razak maintains that he did not spend RM65 million to renovate Seri Perdana when he was the prime minister, after Muhyiddin Yassin drew criticism for spending over RM38 million on repair works for the official residence.

In a Facebook post, Najib said DAP had accused him in 2010 of spending RM65 million for renovations at Seri Perdana, but attributed this to a misunderstanding on their part of the 2011 budget.

He said this “story” had been repeated by the opposition party for years, though this did not happen.

“Instead, the accusations just stopped. So don’t slander me anymore by accusing me of the RM65 million,” he said.

The claims had resurfaced after Muhyiddin came under fire for spending RM38.5 million to repair old and damaged sections of the prime minister’s official residence.

He said he received a report from the prime minister’s department (JPM) regarding the state of the building, with the damage including leaks, outdated lighting systems, damaged floors and ceilings, and plumbing system faults.

Najib also took aim at a Facebook post accusing him of leaving the prime minister’s official residence in a poor state, after the Bersatu-friendly page posted pictures of flooded floors at Seri Perdana.

He said those pictures were taken following a downpour in November last year, adding that he had not been living there since 2017.

“So how can I be made responsible for the situation seen in the pictures taken in November 2020?” he asked.
