PETALING JAYA:
More than 2.9 million Covid-19 vaccine doses were donated to Malaysia, science, technology and innovation minister Dr Adham Baba said today.

In a parliamentary reply to Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar yesterday, Adham said the total number of donated doses was 2,913,790.

The US was the largest donor with 1,000,350 Pfizer doses, followed by Japan which donated 998,400 AstraZeneca doses, China 500,000 Sinovac doses and the UK with 415,040 AstraZeneca doses.

Up to 1.4 million Malaysians benefitted from the donated vaccine doses.

“All vaccine contributions were included in the supply stock for the national Covid-19 immunisation programme (PICK).

“The Malaysian government has agreements with donor countries that do not allow us to sell the vaccines to third parties,” he added.

Answering a separate question from Pang Hok Liong (PH-Labis) on vaccine procurement, Adham said that as of this month, the government had negotiated the procurement of 87.89 million vaccine doses for the country’s population, which included buffer stocks.

He added that as at Sept 19, the country had received a total of 49.7 million vaccine doses.
