BATU PAHAT:
A 73-year-old woman who did not return home last night was found drowned in a ditch in Kampung Parit Betong, near here at 11.54am today.

Penggaram fire and rescue station head Firdaus Ahmad said the deceased was discovered when they dispatched a team after receiving an emergency call.

“When we arrived at the location, the victim, Jamyah Abd Halim, was in a five-foot-deep ditch. It took us five minutes to extract her body.

“We had to put on personal protective clothing as the victim was a person under surveillance, and we surrendered her body to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.

A person under surveillance is someone who has had close contact with a person under investigation for possible exposure to Covid-19.

He said the operation to extract the victim’s body involved a Fire Rescue Tender vehicle, a Hilux utility vehicle and two rapid intervention motorcycles with 10 personnel from the Penggaram station.
