KUALA TERENGGANU:
Six people, including a woman, were issued a compound fine of RM5,000 each for crossing state borders to holiday on Pulau Redang near Kuala Nerus.

Terengganu police chief Rohaimi Md Isa said the offenders were aged 32 to 47.

Action was taken against them during an integrated operation under Phase Three of the national recovery plan for the tourism sector.

Rohaimi said two of them had crossed into the state from Kuala Lumpur, two from Selangor and the other two were from Penang and Melaka.

“Such operations will be carried out from time to time to ensure there is no violation of SOPs.

“This is to prevent any increase in transmission of Covid-19 in Terengganu,” he said in a statement today.

Rohaimi said stern action would also be taken against resort operators who ignored the SOPs and allowed tourists from outside Terengganu to stay at their premises.

Action can also be taken against them if they fail to ensure the guests are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
