Nation’s 4G coverage now at 96%

The government is working towards full 4G coverage within the next two years.

Deputy communications and multimedia minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin hoped the public would be patient and give the government some time to improve internet access, especially in rural areas.
PADANG BESAR:
The nation’s 4G, or fourth generation, network coverage has reached 96%, said deputy communications and multimedia minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

He said the government, together with relevant agencies, was working towards full 4G coverage within the next two years.

“Once all areas have 4G coverage, we will try to upgrade to the 5G network,” he told reporters when attending a community programme at the Ottoman Mosque today.

Zahidi, who is Padang Besar MP, said achieving 4G coverage was in line with the 96.9% target by the end of 2022 under the national digital network (Jendala) initiative launched last year.

He said many procedures were involved in the construction of transmitter towers, including discussions with landowners and state governments for the site.

“We hope the people will be patient and give the government some time to improve internet access, especially in rural areas,” he said.

He also advised the public not to spread or be easily influenced by fake news.
