Rosol Wahid said this when stating that the cost of these self-test kits would be reduced even further by the end of the month, just before school reopens, Bernama reported.
“The sale (of these self-test kits) would not be limited to pharmacies and clinics, but will be expanded to include supermarkets and mini markets.
“This will not only make them more affordable but accessible as well,” the national news agency quoted him as saying.
Earlier this month, Putrajaya set the ceiling prices for Covid-19 self-test kits, with the wholesale price fixed at RM16 a unit and retail price at RM19.90 a unit.
Rosol’s announcement comes hours after health minister Khairy Jamaluddin encouraged the public to purchase Covid-19 self-test kits from pharmacies.
Pharmacists, he said, would be able to educate the public on methods of usage, storage and disposal of the kits, as well as provide follow-up advice and counselling once the test results are released.
He said this in response to complaints from pharmacists that the kits are being sold on online shopping platforms.
