
Of that number, 22 were issued fines, while 25 more are still under investigation, he said in a written reply to Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Independent-Muar).
“Eight cases are under no further action (NFA) and one politician has so far been charged in court,” Hamzah added.
The alleged violations took place between March 18, 2020, when the first full MCO was imposed, and Aug 25 this year, he said.
Syed Saddiq had asked the home minister for the total number of politicians found to have breached SOPs throughout the MCO nationwide.
The independent MP added some of the politicians had been accused of eating in public, dining in at restaurants and not wearing face mask.
In the past, the rakyat slammed the government for practising double standards after reports emerged of celebrities and politicians violating SOPs but were not slapped with compounds immediately.
