In clarifying the matter, Takiyuddin said the area was in fact part of the Gunung Jerai Forest Reserve.
“And this was what I intended to say,” he said in delivering his wrap-up speech at the Dewan Rakyat.
He went on to say that there was no logging going on in the said area as it was a protected forest.
On Monday, Takiyuddin said that Gunung Jerai was located in the 160,000ha Ulu Muda forest reserve, of which 12% of it was a protected area while 88% of the remaining forest could be logged.
He had said this when addressing the recent floods in Gurun, Yan and Merbok in Kedah, which he had described as an “act of God”.
However opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim disputed Takiyuddin’s claim on Gunung Jerai, saying it was “inaccurate and misleading” and called for an investigation to be carried out into whether logging contributed to last month’s floods there.
