Almost 8,600 complaints via app against errant bosses

Minister says most of the complaints were from Malaysians, and action was taken on 7,500 complaints.

Human resources minister M Saravanan said the complaints were filed through the Working for Workers app.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A smartphone app for employees to report on errant employers has received 8,599 complaints since May 3, human resources minister M Saravanan told the Dewan Rakyat.

He said more than 8,200 complaints were from Malaysians. His ministry has taken action against 7,502 complaints.

The complaints were filed through the Working for Workers smartphone app created in May.

He said a new category has been added to ensure workers are not forced to work in the office, especially if the area is under a movement control order lockdown.

The app covers 14 types of complaints involving contract disputes, late payment of salary, being forced to go on leave, unfair dismissal, not reporting employment of foreign workers and improper treatment.

In reply to a question from M Kula Segaran (PH-Ipoh Barat), Saravanan said the MyFutureJobs portal has taken over from the Jobs Malaysia portal as the national portal for jobs.
