BUKIT MERTAJAM: A man in his 40s was killed after he was mowed down by a train near the Perai industrial estate here last night.
In the 8.20pm incident, the man was believed to have been trying to cross the track near Kampung Jawa in Perai when he was hit by the train.
Seberang Perai Central police chief Shafee Abd Samad said it was likely that a locomotive travelling from Butterworth to Bukit Mertajam had caused the man’s death.
He said the unemployed man, a local, sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. The body was sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post mortem.
The case has been classified as sudden death.
