The deputy Bersatu president was appointed as special adviser on Aug 5 but his tenure ended on Aug 16 with Muhyiddin’s resignation. He was paid a prorated amount for the 11 days, plus one month’s salary in lieu of notice.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng had asked Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob how much Faizal had received as the former minister-level adviser and his exact role in the Muhyiddin administration. Following this, netizens had poured scorn over the government’s decision to pay him the amount.
According to an Utusan Malaysia report, Faizal, who is now the youth and sports minister, said he was aggrieved that he had not been given the chance to explain that he wanted to donate the money he received to the Covid-19 fund.
He said he was not angry with those who raised questions about the salary he received and said it was good that the matter had been raised in Parliament to ensure transparency.
“I had not served a long time but was already paid some RM27,000 in salary plus a prorated amount.
“I want to return all this money to the Covid-19 fund. To all those who spoke ill of me, I forgive them, and if I have said anything wrong, I apologise.”
