PN successful, only failed in perception game, says PAS MP

Che Abdullah Mat Nawi says the only failure was overcoming the ‘failed government’ perception which he claims was created by the opposition.

PAS MP Che Abdullah Mat Nawi says the caring policies of the PN government should continue.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A PAS MP claims that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government was a successful government that only failed to counter the perception of failure that he alleges was made up by the opposition.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat today, Che Abdullah Mat Nawi (PAS-Tumpat) said the PN administration had announced eight aid packages worth over RM530 billion to help the people through the health and economic crises.

He also said claims by Pakatan Harapan when it was in power that the country’s debts had soared to over a trillion ringgit had never arisen when PN was in government.

He pointed out that the government had channelled aid to the B40, M40, vulnerable groups and small- and medium-sized enterprises with measures like handouts, the wage subsidy programme and the loan moratorium.

“There are too many for me to list, but these signify the caring attitude of the government that should continue as the nation moves to the endemic (Covid-19) phase.

“In summary, the PN government was a successful government, not a failed government as alleged by some.

“Even if it did fail, it was the failure to overcome the perception created by the opposition at the time and consumed by the people, especially among youths,” he said while debating the King’s address.

In the months leading up to Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as prime minister, the “Kerajaan Gagal” hashtag was a frequent catchphrase used by netizens and politicians to criticise the government.

It followed announcements of lockdowns, record high Covid-19 infections and deaths, double standards in SOP enforcement, stories of struggling Malaysians and reports of suicides.
