
In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,030,935.
He said there were 18,760 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,783,339.
There are 1,272 patients being treated in intensive care, 911 of whom were confirmed to be Covid-19 positive and 361 were suspected of being infected.
Meanwhile, 641 patients needed respiratory assistance, with 414 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 227 suspected of being positive.
Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases with 4,709.
This was followed by Selangor (2,710), Sabah (2,015), Johor (1,860), Penang (1,757), Kelantan (1,434), Kedah (1,178), Perak (1,174), Terengganu (993), Pahang (766), Kuala Lumpur (363), Negeri Sembilan (222), Melaka (190), Perlis (108) and Putrajaya (16).
Terengganu’s numbers were a new record. Its previous high was 987 on Sept 2. There were no cases in Labuan.
There were 19,484 local infections today, comprising 17,860 Malaysians and 1,624 foreigners, as well as 11 imported cases.
Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 1.6% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 0.96, with Sarawak having the highest R-nought level of 1.11.
Others with R-noughts of 1 and higher were Terengganu (1.04), Johor and Pahang (1.01) as well as Penang and Kelantan (1.00).
