GEORGE TOWN:
Penang’s famous Chowrasta market has been ordered to close by the health authorities following the detection of 14 Covid-19 cases among traders there.

The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) said the closure would take effect from today until further notice.

MBPP added that the outdoor section of the Cecil Street market would also be closed until further notice following eight cases among traders there.

“A risk analysis will be carried out by the council and state health department for both markets.”

The council reminded those with high-risk status indicated on their MySejahtera app not to visit public markets.

Several other markets, including the ones in Farlim in Bandar Baru Air Itam and in Jalan Batu Lanchang have also been closed recently.
